Don't take the next bite!
Here's why...
When you bite into a piece of fruit do you taste it, or are you already thinking about the next bite you need to take?
Salvador Dali famously used to take a bite of a peach and then throw the rest in the ocean. He said it made sure he experienced the maximum enjoyment of the bite he had taken, rather than getting distracted by what was left.
Is your mind always thinking about the next thing you have to do, whether that's a bite of an apple, picking up the kids or an upcoming meeting? For lots of people it is, and by living in our heads in a state of continual thought, it adds to the daily stress of life.
If you want to reduce those stressors, start by just by focusing on what you're doing right now. You are much more likely to find a sense of calm by being aware of the present moment, rather than worrying about what may or may not happen later that day, or going over past events of things you can't change.
You don't need to throw away the rest of your peach or apple, but don't miss out on what you're experiencing right now, by always thinking about what's coming next…
Next time you eat something, try it out and see - you may be surprised!
