This one thing makes all the difference... š
It can feel like your mind is always on the go, rushing from one thought to the next all day long. It may even appear that your mind is using you, rather than the other way around.Ā
Our minds are very good at making us think that every thought needs to be acted on or dealt with, but thatās not the case. Most thoughts are just noise, repetitious commentary of previous thoughts, or just made-up scenarios that may or may not happen in the future.
See if you can observe just one of your thoughts, and then just let it go without thinking more about it, or acting on it. Just observe the thought and then let it go.Ā
Start with one thought and go from there. Hereās a nice little story which captures why thatās important...
An old man is walking down a beach and in the distance sees a little girl throwing rocks into the sea. As he walks towards her, he sees that the beach is littered with hundreds of thousands of starfish that have washed up during a storm. As the old man gets closer to the girl he sees that they arenāt rocks sheās throwing into the sea, but starfish. āWhy are you doing that?ā the man asks. āTo get them back into the seaā, she replied.Ā
āBut there are so many of themā, the old man continues, looking down the coastline at the enormity of the childās task. āYouāre not going to make much of a differenceā he said.
The little girl picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean.Ā
Looking up at the man she replied āI made a difference to that oneā.
Just start with one thought. See if you can observe it, and then let it go without doing anything with it.
Another thought will come along, and thatās ok.
By releasing one thought at a time, youāll learn to give yourself the space to become a more present leader.
