Stresslessness
The blog formerly know as 'Grow with the Flow'
Welcome to the newly named blog that was ‘Grow with the Flow’ and has now been renamed ‘Stresslessness’.
Why? Well Stresslessness captures the essence of what I hope this blog will help you achieve.
Stresslessness is :
‘the ability to be calm in the middle of life’s challenges’.
It’s about being able to stay present when something goes wrong, rather than stressing about why things aren’t the way they should be.
It’s responding instead of reacting.
It’s not worrying when you don’t have control of the outcome.
It’s about being able to stay calm at work, when things around you aren’t.
It’s not letting thoughts about stress dictate the way you live.
Stress is part of life. It’s how we deal with it, and think about it, that matters.
As this study on the perception of stress demonstrates, it’s not just the stress itself that causes issues - it’s the way we perceive and think about it that causes the most problems. If we are stressed, and in addition have negative thoughts about being stressed, it’s proven to have a serious impact on our health.
The situation that causes the stress is challenging enough, but to then overlay multiple layers of ‘stressing about the stress’, can really do damage.
Noticing when our thoughts are making situations worse than they actually are, is a key aspect of finding a state of stresslessness.
Having some level of stress is unavoidable, and if you are learning and growing, it’s expected. But if you can accept that you are feeling stressed and not make it worse by feeling bad about it too, there’ll be a much better outcome. It’s not easy to do, but there are tips and techniques from 30 years of proven studies that can help make it happen.
In this blog, we’ll talk more about the impact of our thoughts, and helpful tools to reduce the negative impacts of stress, particularly at work, and lots more…
